FAQ

1. How do I book an appointment?

To book an appointment, simply visit the Therapists page on this website. Each therapist has their own profile with contact details listed. You can get in touch with them directly—there's no need to go through a central office or booking system.

2. How do I choose the right therapist for me?

Choosing the right therapist is an important decision. On the Therapists page, each therapist has a profile outlining the areas they work with, their therapeutic approach, and their way of working. Take some time to read through these profiles and see who feels like a good fit for you. You can contact them directly if you have any questions or want to get a better sense before booking.

3. What happens in the first session?

Your first therapy session is a chance to talk about what's been happening in your life and what you hope to gain from therapy. The therapist will help you feel at ease and begin to build a safe, supportive space. Together, you'll start exploring your goals and how therapy can support you in reaching them — often, the process begins from day one.

4 How much does therapy cost?

Each therapist sets their own fee based on their experience and training. You'll find their rates listed on their individual profiles on the Therapists page. We also offer a sliding scale for those experiencing financial difficulty, with sessions starting from as little as €30.

5 Is what I say in therapy confidential?

Yes—therapy is a private and confidential space. What you share with your therapist stays between you and them. The only rare exception is if there's a serious concern about the safety of a child or another person or yourself. In such cases, your therapist will explain what needs to happen. But for all general purposes, therapy is entirely confidential.

6 How long does each session last?

Most therapy sessions last about an hour. Some sessions—such as psychological assessments or diagnostic consultations—may be longer. For general counselling, whether individual or couples, sessions are typically one hour in duration.

7 Can I change therapists if I feel it's not the right fit?

Yes, absolutely. We encourage clients to give therapy a few sessions, to settle in. If it still doesn't feel like the right fit, you're welcome to explore other therapists on our website. In most cases, a little time helps things settle without needing to change therapist.

8 Do I need a referral from my GP to start therapy?

No referral is needed. While we often receive referrals from GPs, consultants, and other healthcare professionals, it's equally common for individuals to contact us directly and make their own appointment. Both options are perfectly valid—you're free to choose what works best for you.

9 What if I feel nervous about starting therapy?

It's completely normal to feel nervous before starting therapy—many people do. You're stepping into something new, and that can naturally bring up some anxiety. In our experience, most clients feel much more at ease by the end of their first session, and often leave feeling relieved, supported, and encouraged.

10 Will people know that I'm attending therapy?

Our premises are located in a quiet, private setting with very little foot traffic. There is no external signage identifying it as a therapy centre. This is intentional—to protect your privacy and ensure your visit remains completely discreet.

11 Are your therapists accredited or qualified?

Yes, all therapists listed with us are fully qualified in their field. They are affiliated with recognised professional bodies—such as the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP)—and meet the standards required by their accrediting organisations. Some therapists are fully accredited, while others are pre-accredited and in the final stages of completing their clinical hours. In every case, they are trained to provide safe and professional therapeutic support.

12 Are you covered for health insurance refund?

In most cases, yes—but it depends on your specific health insurance plan. We routinely provide receipts for clients who wish to claim through their insurer. However, cover varies between policies, so it's important to check with your provider to see what's included in your plan.
